The BareFoot Saddle
Being a Naturalist, I prefer BareFoot Saddles to all other saddles. It is comfortable for the rider and most importantly it is comfortable for the horse. As a Therapist I offer my clients only saddles that benefit the horse as well as the rider.
When I say that the Barefoot Saddle benefits the horse, you should keep in mind some crucial factors. The Horse's Back Changes constantly whenever the horse is in motion and additionally the musculature of the back will alter due to seasonal changes, age and different feeding or training situations. The Horse's Top line also changes due to its anatomical construction with the different positions of the head, degree of contact and collection. The Horse's shoulder needs to stay free of pressure to allow movement. If the Horse's Shoulder moves under a rigid Saddle with the rider's weight on it, the scapular cartilage often hits the saddle blade and can create inflammation and pain. Horses therefore move flat and the range of motion of the front legs is limited due to pain. You will see this as the shoulders start sinking in and you see muscle apathy along the spine. Which is caused from one thing only and that is a saddle cutting off the blood supply to the muscles on the back and shoulders.
The construction of the Barefoot Saddle allows for the free rotation of the horse's shoulders and with the VPS system (vertebrae protection system) with the panel construction creates a reliable gullet and guarantees the constant protection of the horse's spine. All components are totally flexible, therefore the saddle adjusts immediately to the movements of the horse and problems due to change in the horse's conformation are eliminated. |
